AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS Emeritus Assembly Connecticut Conference Eighteen members and their guests met at noon on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the Johnson Room of the J. Eugene Smith Library at Eastern Connecticut State University. Following a luncheon, President Timothy Killeen introduced Dr. Elsa Nunez, President of ECSU, who gave a presentation entitled “How the State Universities are Dealing with the Current Fiscal Crisis. The business meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. Acceptance of the minutes of the June 24, 2009 meeting was moved, seconded and unanimously approved as presented. Treasurer Richard Wurst presented the Treasurer’s Report. The report was moved, seconded and unanimously accepted as presented. Treasurer Wurst and previous Treasurer Compton Rees discussed the problem of keeping track of whether members pay dues in the fall or the spring. Some fall-paying members lose track and pay twice while others have to be reminded in the spring that they haven’t yet paid. This leads to a lot of confusion for the treasurer. It was proposed, and accepted by acclamation, that the dues follow the academic year and be payable in the fall for everyone. Those who join in the spring will pay upon joining and then again in the fall for the following academic year. President Killeen discussed the plans for the spring meetings. He asked for help putting together a previously suggested program at the Connecticut College Arboretum in New London. Morton Tenzer suggested combining this with a visit to the Lyman Allyn Museum in New London. Tim asked for help planning this and another spring program, and also for help with the newsletter. He scheduled an Executive Board meeting for January 13, 2010 at his home in Windham. Interested members are encouraged to attend. The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Jane Knox, Secretary Approved 4/5/2010 |
