Dear Fellow EA Member:
The schedule for our second spring meeting will not be complete for another month or so and the spring newsletter will appear after those details are set. Our first meeting has been arranged by Nicholas Welchman for March 29, and we need to get the information on that meeting to you in a timely manner. Thus, I have sent you this early mailing. The attached flyer has all of the details and the form below will, along with a check, secure your reservation. The second meeting will include a tour of the Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park, and will take place some time in early June.
While I have your attention, there are a couple of items of interest that I would like you to think about. In prior issues, the newsletter has included a “Reader Opinion Page”. Last year, Mary Rogers contributed two very thoughtful articles. One item giving a perspective on the race between Barack and Hillary and the other a plea for members to help us increase our membership. I would encourage each of you to try to match her creativity and articulation with a submission for this spring’s edition. One topic that might be of interest to all of us is your perspective on the series of recent articles in the Courant on “Double Dipping” by retired state employees, especially emeriti from State Universities. The reactions of the Governor and University Administrations seem to be at loggerheads on this issue. You can submit articles to me by mail or email, killeen3@charter.net. I look forward to your input and to seeing you at the Atheneum.
