CONNECTICUT STATE CONFERENCE

                    AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS
                                    EMERITUS ASSEMBLY
                                        CONSTITUTION
                                     Approved May 1988
                                        I. NAME
The name of the organization is the Emeritus Assembly of the Connecticut  State Conference of the American Association of
University Professors, Inc. (the Assembly).
                                        II. PURPOSE
To promote the social and professional interests and general welfare of emeritus professors of institutions of higher learning in Connecticut.
                                        III. MEMBERSHIP
All emeritus AAUP members residing in Connecticut shall be eligible for membership in the Assembly.  Other interested retired faculty members may become members.  All members shall be eligible to vote and hold office.
Annual dues shall be determined by the Assembly at the stated annual meeting.
                                        IV. OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS
Elected officers of the Assembly shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasure.  The annual meeting shall elect
by a simple majority the officers for the coming year from a slate recommended by the nominating committee.
(Amended May/1991 : Two year terms for the officers.  President and Vice President elected in the even years and Secretary ,
Treasurer in odd years.)
A liaison member of the Executive Committee of the Connecticut State Conference shall be jointly appointed by the President
of the Assembly and of the Conference.  The liaison member may be an officer of the Assembly.
Committee chairpersons, as needed, may be appointed by the president of the Assembly.
The term of office of all officers shall be one year, commencing June 1st. 
Officers may succeed themselves.
                                V.  STANDING COMMITTEES
The standing committees of the Assembly may be: executive, membership, nominating, legislative, finance, program, local
arrangements and newsletter.  The members of these committees shall be appointed by the President.
                                    VI.   MEETINGS
There shall be three to six meetings during the academic year, with the last meeting in April or May to be known as the
"stated annual meeting";.
                                    VII.  ADOPTION AND AMENDMENTS
This Constitution may be adopted by a simple majority of the members present and voting at a regular meeting off the
Assembly for which four weeks advance notice is given.  Amendments and/or By-Laws may be adopted by a majority of
members present and voting at a regular meeting for which four weeks advance notice is given.
