DON'T   MISS OUR OCTOBER MEETING!
Though this issue of our newsletter is late getting to   you, it's worth having waited for because it brings excellent news of our first   Fall Meeting. Arrangements are made for us to attend one of the prestigious   Edwin Way Teale Lecture Series environmental presentations at the University   of Connecticut campus in Storrs on Thursday, October 4.
Speaking   on
Endangered Species   Conservation: An Assessment and Prognosis
wii be
Michael J.Bean, Esq.
Chair"   of the Wildlife Program of the national Environmental Defense Fund.
The Defense Fund partners with   businesses, governments, and communities to find practical solutions to   environmental problems; and given that the speaker is an attorney, we may   assume that his expertise is in the knotty legal aspects of the issues. Atty.   Bean, a Yale Law School graduate, specializes in endangered species, forest, and   watershed issues, all of which are of concern to Connecticut residents.   Moreover, among his recent publications is ;A Happy Marriage: Farm Bill   Conservation Programs and Endangered Species SafeHarbor   Agreements,;which addresses an increasingly urgent issue in our state as   farmlands surrender to development.
On October 4 we will first gather at 1:OOpm for luncheon at Zenny's Restaurant, just west of the intersection of   Routes 195 and 44 in Storrs (directions are below). In case you missed it,   our meal there last year had excellent reviews. This time our entree choices   are:
Baked   Salmon
Pork Tenderloin with   Mushrooms and Spinach Eggplant Florentine
Eggplant Florentine
Veal   Parmesan
and the cost of the full meal is $18.00. (There is also a   cash bar.) Please be sure to mark your choice on the tear-off registration   form on the back of this newsletter and return it promptly to Compton Rees -   or, if you have received this notice too late to depend on the USPS to meet   the September 24deadline, please call one of our officers   (listed on p. 7) to make your reservation.
